   Well, there's the in-story reason and the out-of-story reason.   
      
   The private eye *always* falls for the dame. It's part of the genre. Bogart   
   and Bacall, Bogart and Mary Astor, etc., etc., etc.   
      
   Looking from inside the plot? Rachael is a fragile creature. She appeals to   
   Deckard's protective side. She needs him to protect her physically and   
   emotionally. While he moves to be her protector, he develops a bond and   
   feelings for her.   
      
   Does it happen rather fast? Yes. But I think it often does in movies.
