   I haven't seen Appleseed, but I did watch Neon Genesis Evangelion   
   recently and oh man, was that a brilliant series, one of the best pieces   
   of sci-fi I've seen in a very long time. It's like David Lynch making a   
   giant robot anime. The movie finale was pretty spectacular as well,   
   though less emotionally coherent than the series' conclusion.
