Standing in the dark, rainy shadows of a city alleyway, I spied the

First and foremost, it is a radio series. I actually listened to it
live and have one of those big black vinyl disc things of it. I have
the script in book form also. The novels are good to me, but probably
more in the five book trilogy than just the first. The quotes I make
are actually from the TV series which I have on DVD. I do own the
movie on DVD as well, but just like every other Hollywood movie from a
British TV series, they completely miss the point and even with HIS
own involvement, the effort of trying to change this simple law killed
him. Not liking the first book I can accept as a simple "this isn't
really my thing". The movie isn't really anybody's thing, except as
mild escapist amusement, but even then slightly annoying. Or, in
certain aspects, very annoying. The one thing I predicted (correctly
IMO) after seeing it at the cinema was that it would work better on a
   small screen.

So, I'll happily pour us both fresh Singapore Slings and join you in
the library where we can discuss Damon Knight. I know of him, but
cannot seem to recall ever actually reading any of his books. Perhaps
you could suggest where one might start?
