   You'd think once bitten twice shy, but I'm having this same problem at work   
   as well, with an IT Contractor who doesn't take backup seriously enough,   
   which is somewhat ironic.   
      
   I think in this situation you have to set something up, perhaps a relatively   
   cheap external drive, which backs up regularly and transparently. Although   
   you're still reliant on the person to check they haven't unplugged it, or   
   something. That is, just thinking the backup is running isn't enough...
