   Yeah, apparently so. Here in Australia though there was some kind of   
   court ruling that said all DVD payers had to be region free out of the   
   box, or some with instructions to unlock it with the remote control,   
   because region locking was deemed unlawful or something. That was years   
     ago, but the same thing hasn't happened with BD regions yet, if it   
   does at all.   
      
   You apparently CAN get modded players that have been opened and had   
   chips soldered in, or buy kits to do it yourself but that's messy, adds   
   cost to the player and voids the warranty.   
      
   It's really annoying as I've always bought both local and imported DVDs   
   (maybe a 50/50 split) because foreign versions are often cheaper,   
   better, come out sooner or are for titles that never get a local release   
   at all.   
      
   Anyway, another thing I'd like to see is standard def TV series sold on   
   BD. So you'd get idential quality of a 6-disc season set on DVD but on 1   
   or 2 Blu-Ray discs. Would be very convenient and save a lot of space.
