|    A new BR FAQ?    |
|    28 Dec 08 17:06:09    |
From: father.vivian.oblivion@saintalfonzospancakebreakfast.com              Right men, pay attention.              Historically, there are three text documents loosely associated with       this ng:              1. The BR FAQ - a FAQ dedicated to the film and lots more besides.       Occasionally posted as a text document on the ng, and lives as a HTML       and/or/nand/nor text document on the brmovie.com website.              2. The ChaaarFAQ - a document describing the netiquette to be observed       when posting to AFBR. Occasionally posted as a text document on the ng,       and sometimes used by Fremen as a killing word.              3. The Beginner's Guide to AFBR - a document detailing some of the       history, in-jokes and humour that this fine ng has spawned. Occasionally       posted as a text document on the ng whenever my restraining order allows       me back on a computer.              There are, of course, myriad other documents (the music FAQ, the       multi-script, the encyclopedia inter alia) which also live on       brmovie.com, available for interested parties to peruse, but it's the BR       FAQ that concerns me.              Basically, the BR FAQ has fallen somewhat out of date. Its nominal       owner, Lukas "Blame Magnet" Marimbatron, occasionally threatens to sort       it out, but since the release of the Final Cut, this task has become       less of a tidy-up and more of a major re-write.              So, I have a cunning plan...              Why don't we turn the FAQ into a Wiki?              The more I think about it, the better it seems. It means that those       people with the time and energy to update the wiki can do so, and we're       not dependent on one person to make all the changes. The changes can be       made little by little, there's no requirement for a 'big bang'.       Furthermore, the text-based format of the FAQ was great when keeping       Mosiac running long enough with a 14.4 kbps PPP connection was nigh on       impossible, but these days I think we can all manage browser-based       activity, and a Wiki would be a good way to organise the information.              We would, of course, need someone to host the wiki site - but given the       number of folks here with their own websites etc. I'm sure we can work       that out. Furthermore, I would suggest we have a council of tribal       elders who have editorial control over the wiki to prevent vandalism and       to ensure that the wiki is as factual and balanced as we can make it.       That sort of detail we can thrash out later on.              So, what do you say? Does it twist your Mellorman, or merely spook you       upside your head? Discuss.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
