   IIRC you can create a "permanent" chatroom in Messenger, with an HTTP link.

   But... we've tried to create chatrooms in the past e.g. KDX, and only one or   
   two of us ended up using it a lot. I suspect there just isn't the motivation   
   for enough people to use it, plus there isn't that many of us, plus we're   
   all in different geographies doing different things.   
      
   Sorry to be a cynic, but I suspect it just isn't practical and will be much   
   like before.
