ea3a63bd       From: e-mail.me@from.BRmovie.com              Standing in the dark, rainy shadows of a city alleyway, I spied the       Replicant Steve covertly transmitting a message to renegade friends in       alt.fan.blade-runner. Tracking...              Hey Steve,              I'll limit myself to just two things.              >Note: "Peter Falk for Deckard? WHAT?"       >       >This note amuses me, because at the time I only knew Falk from his       >small role in "Made" and the later Columbo movies, where he's kindof       >pulling a Charles Bronson a-la Death Wish 5 and begging for retirement       >(literally, not like how we use that word around here.) Since then, I       >bought my mom the first season of Columbo films from the 1970s and       >they're actually quite good, and though not an action star Falk comes       >off as a whole lot more cool, though still a schmuck. I also saw Der       >Himmel uber Berlin (Wings of Glory), and Falk's got some serious depth       >in that film. So, though definitely absolutely not Harrison Ford, I       >can't stick to that "WHAT?" anymore and will just say "Interesting."       >More interesting, in fact, than Dustin Hoffman, a consideration we       >learned about in Future Noir.              I still rate Columbo as one of the very best and Peter Falk had a lot       to do with that. I've seen him in a few other things and tbh never       thought Wow! However, as an earlier view of what Deckard was to be, I       could certainly have seen him do a good job. Ultimately they made a       different film to that.              >Note: "Hauer's speech not on-the-spot."       >       >So, the tears in rain speech was not largely thought up that fateful       >night of shooting? I need to rewatch this, but I doubt I was lying       >about this note. Is this not a debunk-tion of a myth, reinforced in       >Future Noir? I should cite check before I post here, 'cause someone       >will correct me if I'm wrong, but I cite-check all day for money and       >would rather just keep this fun. Because it's a hobby. And hobbies       >should be fun. That's why I don't play golf anymore.              My memory may be deteriorating, but I am certainly of the impression       that it was long since established that a longer speech was scripted       and Hauer talked it over with Scott and said it was too long, could we       cut it down and by the way I have this 'tears in rain' bit I thought       might sound good at the end. These may be implanted memories, but       that is what is lurking in my brain.              Yeah, I actually dropped out of most of... well most stuff even before       the FC actually hit stores. Went to FB which I had actually joined a       year before just to see what it was. Play games there, but also       hooked up with old RL friends and communicate more with nieces than       before. Spend a little time with banter with peeps from here. It is       useful in its place. As I work on the computer all day, I have it       open most of the time and it does distract me somewhat from more       useful pursuits. I would still enter into some BR discussion here,       but we are all that much older, the world has changed, BR is now a       complete thing (as far as it ever can or will be). So, speaking for       myself, my interest in discussion of it has moved away to all the       other things that were once tangential to the main theme here.              http://www.facebook.com/Netrunner                            --       Right now, I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same       time. I think I've forgotten this before.       --              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
