   Similarly, think of all the comedies that turn on a misunderstanding. A simple   
   phone call would eliminate the premise.   
      
   I also note that most science fiction through the '70s completely missed the   
   microcomputer trend. Lots of stories mentioned "giant brains," etc. And in

   first Alien movie, wasn't there a whole compartment on the spacecraft dedicated

   In the middle '80s when I hadn't yet heard of the Alien movie, friends and I   
   stopped in at an acquaintance's apartment. They were watching Alien. We asked   
   what the movie was about. "Monster on a spaceship. Two down, five to go," was   
   the reply. It's one of the most succinct synopsis of a movie I've ever heard.
