A bristle brush usually refers to a stiff-haired brush, and it can be
natural animal bristles or artificial stiff bristles. Soft bristled
brushes can be natural sable hair or artificial soft bristles. Almost
all of my watercolor brushes are soft bristles, but I have a couple of
stiff bristled brushes I use for softening up the pan water color
paints for mixing the color, and for special effects in the watercolor
   painting.
