It's a chemical class, not a pharmacologic one.        Vitamin D's a steroid, for instance.              In 2018 I was on Solumedrol for a few days intravenously and then prednisone       at a high dose, to be tapered over a couple of weeks, orally, for a case of       bronchiolitis from parainfluenza B. I'd taken prednisone previously for       bronchitis, lower dose and shorter time. This time it got rid of my rhonchi       but led to rales from congestive heart failure. I'd been in atrial       fibrillation from the chest disturbance, recurring quickly after cardioversion       when I was discharged from the hospital, and the combination of A fib and       reduced cardiac output led me to gain 22 lbs. of water. Because in addition       to the antiinflammatory, glucocorticoid action, prednisone has s       dium-retaining,       mineralocorticoid action. That's the usual concern, not psychic effects.              Bob in Andover              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
