From: Beaver_Fever@live.com              She posted here in the 1990's.              And on another group.              Under her real name.              In the meantime a bit later she had a user name on a music message board where       we hit it off due to similar tastes in the more obscure bands, though she       lived a bit far away she would sometimes be at local gigs.              Maybe a few years later I mailed a package with memorabilia etc and got her       real name which looked really familiar.              Then we were in the same room again in 2010-ish and I said hey are you the       same ... who posted on Usenet?               Yes!              Hey I used to post as (whatever my user name was at the time).              Her jaw dropped and she said "NO...FUCKING...WAY" then she said to her       boyfriend "I've known him longer than you." I actually see him around more       because he lives close by and we were at a lot of the same places so we would       sell each other tickets or        give each other plus ones etc.              But remembering my crazy posts and knowing me, she knows it's not really a       joke. Guess that's our little secret as I used to be afraid of being "outed"       though now I don't care.              She has a slightly deep hint of southern drawl. Perfect for radio and       podcasts. Instead of telephone customer service. Maybe some day I will figure       out a podcast where I will be Ashley Flowers and she will be a much smarter       and relevant version of I can        never remember her name who acts like a less funny Flavor Flav.              That particular night was actually a party but a band I go and see played a       few blocks away and I went there next. This was during my brief 2009-2010       relapse. Got really, really fucked up, don't even remember the band though I       had a digital audio        recorder so I was still able to experience it later. The band plays to 12       people here but a friend in England was a big fan so I would just send him       recordings all the time and he would occasionally send me T shirts and stuff       from my favorite nobody ever        heard of them bands from there.              Woke up in my friend's house not really knowing where I was. One of those       Silver Lake in the hillside houses where you go in the front door and right       downstairs into the living room so I even had a hard time finding my way out       of there.              Never banged anyone from Usenet though unlike music message boards and I       suspect that opportunity has slipped away.              If not for the crazy turn life took with the advent of the internet in the       late 1990's I am not sure I would have been able to hang on this long.              Thought I would add a bit of levity as I still think about the heartbreaking       tale of Veronique and Pauly (??) who I gave ticket selling advice to once.       Then started taking my own advice to escape the McJob and eventually retire.              I love America!              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
