One of the reasons my hood regularly tops "most desirable places to live on
Planet Earth" lists is within a few blocks I have Trader Joe's, Walgreen,
Super King, Jon's, 99 Cents Only and a smattering of smaller ethnic markets
and the only reason I step
foot into Ralph's is the occasional condiment and the amazing clearance rack.
A lot of places have abandoned self-checkout, but not Ralph's where they've
always had people steering to those lanes. I would refuse and if they would
   offer to help I would
say "I am trying to save your job" and it would shame them to a much farther
lane until I was out of the store. And now often it's the only option before
10am and the one helper is always busy with someone else. I go super slow no
   matter who is behind me
except when I run into problems with the clearance tags not scanning and I
make a split second decision how bad I really want it before I just toss it in
the corner. Ralph's is just a horrible place and if not for the horribly
   inefficient inventory
management system than has them regularly tossing out perfectly decent coffee
at half price I would never set foot in the place.
