From: snidely.too@gmail.com              On Tuesday, Questor yelped out that:              > There is still the issue of power. Electric drones need to be recharged.       > That means either an electric grid or solar. The latter might be feasible       > with swappable battery packs. Conventional liquid fuels (gasoline et. al.)       > require a distribution network, which leads us back to needing roads.              Both types can be serviced at a hub location, so the road can end where       it probably already ends.              And obviously, planes have providing bush service in Africa since the       days of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, and probably earlier. The expense       of that must be big enough to not support a lot of villages. Ask       Doctors Without Borders about gaps in plane coverage, as I bet it       effects their efforts.              And drone pilots require a lot fewer hours of training, less rigorous       medical requirements, and can probably sleep in the same bed (their       own) every night.              I think current drones can probably be well utilized to provide support       for medical clinics: rapid delivery of vaccines and antivenoms,       returning with bio samples to a lab at the hub. The occasional       non-medical priority payload will fill out the schedule.              /dps              --       "That's a good sort of hectic, innit?"              " Very much so, and I'd recommend the haggis wontons."        -njm              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
