   I just found out that the famous cable drop scene from Mission   
   Impossible was inspired by a much earlier scene from the movie Topkapi:

   It appears that the movie heist attempt inspired a real life attempt in   
   NYC.   
      
   I visited Topkapi once and they happily mentioned the attempted movie   
   jewel theft there, so they obviously weren't too worried about a copycat   
   heist.
