   IIRC, you'll see ads at the top of the search returns if Adblock Plus   
   has been installed with its default settings, as those include   
   ticking the box to "allow acceptable ads".   
      
   You have to go into the Adblock settings and untick that to block the   
   ads at the top of the Google search results.
