   An older guy taught me a hotel trick.  He said, forget what's online,   
   stop at a rest stop, pick up the free hotels pamphlet, and call one in   
   there with a low price.  Sure enough, 5+ times counting now, I've never   
   had a particularly nasty or unpleasant hotel, and it's regularly only   
   $45-75/night depending on the area.  I think they only list at least   
   half-way decent hotels in those books.
