I think the shortage messaging is generally a crock and click-bait,
with some political overtones to it..

It isn't as if some things don't sell out in the run up to Christmas.
I recall not being able to get the hottest toys or electronics in days
gone by, and this year there are still chip shortages caused by
backlogs from the pandemic, but ya know, some times that happens with
   items without pandemics.

I am an over-eager consumer and shopper, both online and at places
like Costco.I admit my shortcomings, but I have seen no shortages or
empty shelves. I have seen higher prices, however, but that is
   another story.

I have recently made it a point when any local news coverage talks
about shortages to respond and try to get to the bottom of it. Local
online news today wrote about a woman who cannot get a turkey due to
"shortages" and higher pricing, so she would substitute Cornish hens.
I have never seen game hens cheaper than turkey, even this year's
turkeys, but hey, not as outrage-building as saying turkeys are in
   short supply and outrageously priced.
