   Perth Australia is right where you want to be as your jump off point for the   
   final 2,500 boat journey to Heard Island which is among the remotest places on   
   earth.  It is a barren and unoccupied volcanic island which is about 2/3rds of   
   the way from    
   Madagascar to Antartica.   It has an area of 142 square miles. most of it   
   covered by 41 glaciers.    It is accessible only by boat and care should be   
   taken to avoid the 9 ship wrecks surrounding the island.
