   As I recall, in the really old days, the format was like this...

   GUEST #1 INTERVIEW (part 2)   
   (commercial)   
   WHO'S ON TOMORROW NIGHT   
   COMEDY BIT (sometimes, of course, these two are combined)

   GUEST #2 INTERVIEW   
   (commercial)   
   MUSICAL GUEST, COMEDIAN, or GUEST #3 INTERVIEW   
   (commercial)   
   GOOD NIGHT   
      
   ...and then circa mid-1998, they eliminated one of the commercial breaks.
