   Review 29 December 2006 -- Barack Obama,
   30 Dec 06 02:16:54

   From: nebusj-@-rpi-.edu

From the City of Windy Shoulders!

   Conologue:
   	- The binocular thing has turned into the telescope
thing. Still no sign of the edge of the audience. Why do those
observation telescopes tick so? 3800 people in the audience --
for comparison, that's about 19 times the audience in Studio 6-A.

   	- Hypothesis: Gary, Indiana is the New Jersey of Chicago.

   	- It's been speculated that the Chicago Fire of 1871 was
started by meteorites, actually. Part of it is that there were
reports of other fires all over the midwest. Pretty neat idea,
though. Nicely Pythonesque problem of the cow defusing a bomb,
   however.

   	- LaBamba is the Empire Carpet Guy tonight. Comes along
   with jingle and carpet samples.

The Sears Tower in Sears Clothing:
   	- People Magazine 'Most Interesting Men'. People in the
first row discovered they could reach on-screen if they tried.

Riding Around with a Chicago Native, Andy Richter Yay!
   	- They mechanized Conan's desk! That's more work than
they put into the Studo 6-A desk in all the years it was there.

   	- Doing a better job on going down the stairs is a
traditional gag for these. I like the moustaches and the snow.
Was the Chicago OnStar guy one of the Superfans actors from
Saturday Night Live? Pretty cheeky for Conan to run over nerds.

   	- There was an odd 'smack' foley at the end of batting
practice at Wrigley Field; apparently somebody jumped the gun on
Steve Bartman or whatever his name was.

   	- I was going to say what a nice illusion going on the
River was, but the Ferris Wheel was better.

Late Night Chicago Small Talk Moment:
   	- This one didn't feel quite as fun as last night's, but
maybe there was just only so far it'd go.

   Wheel of Wendt:
   	- I wondered if there was an excuse for not having him on
   last night.

   	- Give Chewbacca a Massage: What's Chicagoan about
   Chewbacca?

   Barack Obama:
   	- Yes, Barack and Conan should get along.

   	- I've had the same barber for about twenty years now; he
was very proud to have a customer who comes all the way from
Singapore for him, as having loyal customers from afar is one of
the perks of being a barber.

   	- Nice bits about the problems of public speaking and the
comparison with the problems of performing.

   Goose Ale Brewery:
A Conan O'Brien brew: Yeah, he was going to get a Pale
Ale. But Pale, pale Ale is probably better fitting. Lose the
picture of him on the beach, though; it's not at all flattering.
And oddly enough this ends with George Wendt completing another
of the Wheel of Wendt challenges.

   Wilco:
   	- The Thanks I Get For Loving You. (At least that sounds
   like it's probably the title.)

   Playing Them Out:
   	- I misede who that was, I guess Mucca Pazza, from the
drum, but it sounded like they were blending the Late Night theme
with that of the Simpsons. Nice way of sprucing up interest in
the closing credits, particularly with the lack of performances
   from Spike Jones these days.
