What really amazes me is that by now it's got to be about as long
that Conan's been without Andy as he was *with* Andy Richter. It was just
back seven years ago this May that we were singing about how there's a lot
of Andy Richters out there, wasn't it?

It's kind of Andy Kaufman-esque for a joke like that, really.

I don't think Andy's got much to be embarrassed about -- he has
had two sitcoms, one short-lived and one sure giving off all the signs
of being short-lived, that were at least critically successful and taken
as evidence that there's fresh and original stuff to be done within the
bounds of half-hour comedy, and he's had one much less challenging sitcom
and some rather good guest appearances or voice-over bits. Most folks
don't even get one chance like it, and if he hasn't got a home run yet,
it certainly looks like he'll be getting as many at-bats as he likes.
