The national commercials on first-run "Tonight Show" episodes are set
before the taping begins -- the commercials are played from the "Tonight
Show" control room during the taping, as opposed to being handled three
hours later by NBC Burbank master control, and they're even listed on
the show rundown. (I know this from my closed-captioning days.)

As far as I know, the local affiliates don't get any heads-up about
"Tonight Show" interview content, so there's no real chance for them to
adjust their commercials -- which they've usually got set up on the
digital media server way in advance anyway. (And it's very unlikely
that anyone with the authority to swap commercials around is present at
the station past normal working hours.)
