|    Re: More Repetitive: Joe's Bar or Conan'    |

From: ddrewc@verizonSPAMBEGONE.net              On 2007-05-11 9:41 p.m., Joseph Nebus verbated:       > Every Conan's Lullaby is the same sketch except that one refrain       > will use whatever horrible events are in the news that month, and some       > of the video will be swapped out. Every Joe's Bar sketch is the same,       > except that whatever event Conan embarrassed himself at the last weekend       > will be plugged in with something new. I'm curious what you, the viewer       > at home, regards as the more repetitive sketch.              My nominee for the ignominious honor of "Most Repetitive Sketch" is Conan's       Lullaby because:              1) Conan has done the lullabies the same way almost since the beginning of       the show (I looked it up in the archives of this newsgroup, and the first       mention of "lullaby" is from November 1994), whereas Joe's Bar is a       relatively recent creation and hence holds some potential for innovation;              2) the proportion of new content in each lullaby is very low (not unlike       the baby's comprehension): the new parts usually take up about 10-15       seconds of air time, while the rest is recycled, resulting an       old-material-to-new-material ratio of 3:1 or 4:1;              3) the new parts rarely contain anything truly surprising or comedically       ingenious, as they're too short to produce more than a quick laugh; and              4) I believe the lullaby runs longer than Joe's Bar, so that means a longer       amount of time (in absolute terms) spent recycling stuff.              I thought Joe's Bar was good the first few times, but it hasn't really       evolved much (if at all). The NBC Radio Ghost and the Pro Athlete Salesmen       sketches are highly predictable, too. I'm not saying that the show should       abolish the lullaby or their other "stock" sketches, but I wish they would       come up with more new sketches to add to the mix for those of us who like       variety.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
