|    9 August 2007 - Jackie Hoffman, Bruce Pa    |

From: nebusj-@-rpi-.edu              Jackie Hoffman:        - She's helped them out performing whenever they needed a loud, caustic       shrew, such as for Max's wife.                - She's in Xanadu, which must be said as the emergency Australian would do.        She listened to Broadway records; by the time she was nine she was a gay man.        She was also in the original cast of Hairspray for two and a half years. She       did the same show        every night for two and a half years. Imagine if Conan interviewed Al Roker       every night for two and a half years.                + Oh, like Conan did from 1995 to 1997?                - She's met big people backstage, and she gets starstruck. She can be a       shrinking violet or overconfident out of terror and, ``LOOK at how FUN-ny I       AM!'' One night George HW Bush and Barbara Bush visited; she sulked that       Barbara was ignoring her.        George asked her to pay attention to her. She looked at Barbara and said       ``Well, here's the real man of the family!'' Barbara Bush didn't think she       liked that.                - Olivia Newton-John was in the movie; she was at opening night and took the       bow with the cast. She went to the opening-night party; she said Hoffman was       so brilliant in the show. Hoffman instead of saying thank you instead sang       some obscure radio hit        Newton-John had in the 70s. The smile drained out and horror crept into her       face. Why does she *do* that? ``I don't know.''                - She seems the quintessential New Yorker. She lives in a co-op built for       Jewish garment workers so now most of them are 80 or 90 years old. She's the       building babe. It's nice; you hold the door open, they don't thank her. One       day a delivery man        asked her to keep a delivery for a neighbor not home. It was a walker with an       attached commode. She needs a commode attached to a walker, and she's not       home? So she kept it.                + What a voice! I don't doubt that she commands the stage whenever she wants.                     Bruce Parry:        - As host of Going Tribal (Hoffman makes some jungle noises) he travels to       remote locations and moves in with a tribe for a month.                - He tries tribal medicines, which is different to sampling foods. Whether       frog poison or going through a ritual or hallucinogenic drugs ... How is frog       poison a medicine? They use it a purgative. They brand the arm, pick out the       scabs, and rub the        poison; this causes vomiting and defecation. This is to become better       hunters. Parry has the worst job in television.                - Others get whipped to become a better hunter, which Conan thinks makes them       sound like good Catholics. One Guinea tribe puts insects in your ear to clean       wax.                - Most physically unpleasant? Eating of a eboga (?) for the drug trip; the       penis inversion was a bit odd. (Hoffman: that's a vagina.) Rather than have       their penis slapping around their chest. (Conan: Chest? Chest? I mean,       yeah, chest!) So they        sometimes force it back in their body. The only thing in his program he said       ``no'' partway through.                - It's folded over the foreskin and they hold the shaft ... if you squeeze a       sausage roll the meat goes out ... the guy doing this to him, a wonderful       bloke, had come on to him and had a cheezy grin. He wanted to say no, but it       has to go through two        translators, and he doesn't want to offend a friend. Conan thinks etiquette       doesn't cover this. (Miss Manners would disagree.) Suddenly half of it       disappears in. He can't hear the director, his ears are full of cotton, he's       feeling faint, he starts        to lie down. He sticks his legs in the air, the camera sees his rear, [ ]       missing ...                - Has it ever occurred to him these are not ancient rituals, that they see       him coming a mile off?              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
