|    2007 October 2 - Ted Koppel, 'Tastic    |

From: nebusj-@-rpi-.edu              Ted Koppel:        - He offers to catch from the underwear lady. Not from the guy.        Conan's never seen a man cry in the audience.                - He and his wife celebrated their 40th anniversary. There's       discussions of ``how much do you love me?'' He skated by on wide arms       spread, but this time he wrote a song, and asked Bruce Springsteen and       the E Street Band to record it. It was a little ditty called Born To       Run. Well, Bruce screwed it up but ...                - She gets asked a lot about their relationship and she finally       started to say she married him for the sex.                - Breaking Point: shot in a California prison. Prisons were       built to house no more than 100,000 people and they host 170,000; the       frighteningly enormous number of people in prison isn't working. And       Koppel went into the prisons himself. Was he scared?                - Nah, these are guys who really feel they need to talk and the       last person who'll get hurt is a reporter giving them their big chance.                       - How do they react to a TV celebrity? There was one nice young       inmate who asked what it's like being a celebrity, it must be great, you       have so much money you could buy all the weed you can handle. How can       you answer? The guy figured it must be great, you got, what, two or       three ladies in back of your stretch limo? The producer pointed out       Koppel's fidelity for 44 years, and the kid asked, ``Why would you do       that?''                - What's one thing he would change or fix about the penal system       if he could? First, people who commit nonviolent crimes as a result of       drug addiction are better served getting off drugs. Second, instead of       building more prisons and overcrowding prisons, give them vocational       training, anger management training, drug-and-alcohol programs. We're       keeping people in conditions so bad all they learn is how to be a better       criminal. And in California you're obliged to return to the community       where you committed the crime, making things all the more cyclical.                - California spends $43,000 a year on prisoners; Harvard Driving       School is $43,300 a year, room-board-tuition. And if some of those       people would go to Harvard it would raise the whole (tenor the place? I       couldn't make it out)                            'Tastic Guy:        - Tina Fey, she's fantastic.                - Kenneth Brannaugh, he's Sleuth-tastic.                - Anni DiFranco, she's DiFraca-tastic.                - He'd rather read 'Root Canal by Dr Theodore Peterson' than       watch the comedy stuff.                - Conan's stuff is all stink-tastic.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
