|    Writers Strike: day 29 - Leno steps up    |
|    03 Dec 07 21:13:50    |
From: nebusj-@-rpi-.edu               At the saving of some face, Jay Leno's announced that he'll       be covering the salaries of non-writing production staff, at least       on a week-by-week basis, and he apparently hopes the strike will be       over shortly:        http://www.variety.com/VR1117976808.html               It's certainly good news for the production staff even if       there is the weird ambiguity about whether they'll be rehired when       someday in the future the strike ends and the show goes back into       production. It's hard to see what NBC hopes to gain by not assuring       production staff that they'll be hired back at the end of the strike:       they are going to *need* a staff with this same experience, after all,       and while it might help them trim costs if they can replace people       with new hires, is that going to be worth the loss of goodwill? Whose       strike is next on the schedule, by the way?              --        Joseph Nebus       ------------------------------------------------------------------------------              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
