   	From experimentation with the local server and Google, yeah,   
   I can almost certainly send but not receive in alt.* groups.  I will   
   be asking the responsible people to fix things, but IT staff never   
   ever believes you the first time through that there's a problem so I   
   am sure this will last until the next year anyway.  There is no need   
   to panic.
