   	Can you believe it's only been fourteen years since we stumbled   
   into this odd little corner of the world together?   
      
      
   	For those lacking Jim Ellwanger's tenure -- back in the early   
   days of afcob, when Late Night was hanging on 13-week renewals and even   
   at one point was cancelled-but-not-publicly-cancelled, I stumbled across   
   the group.  What happened was the Unix lab I normally used to putter   
   around online at the time was closed for some reason, so I found there   
   was a Mac lab which was open.  They didn't have the nn newsreader, alas,   
   but they did have what I guess must have been MT-Newsreader, which let   
   me see not just the group I was looking for -- alt.fan.cecil-adams --   
   but also some groups awfully close to it in alphabetical order.  It   
   looked really quite interesting.   
      
   	Anyway, one of the attractions when I got on was the clever,   
   sharp postings of Al Bell, whom I naturally assumed to be one of the   
   grand masters of the newsgroup.  She's gone off having a life since   
   then, but she still looks in occasionally, and I hope she's feeling   
   good today.
