Yes, it's always nice to see them experiment like this. In this case they
started with something relatively innocuous and ended with a Pender sundae.
The toy soldiers were just the right bizarre, arbitrary touch to top off
   the bit.

I think they did switch to close-ups of Pender after he had stuff dumped on
him, but I agree that they should have switched sooner or showed a slo-mo
   zoomed-in replay or something.

Although Pender's crotch was pixelated, I assume he wasn't actually nude,
since that might be indecently exposing him to the studio audience. How is
this kind of thing handled? Did he wear some kind of flesh-colored Speedo?

Yes, this was a nice variation on a bit that, to be frank, had lost its
funniness sometime back in the last millennium.

So far this week, though, my favorite bit has been the "Next Guest Song"
bit with Kevin Nealon from Monday's show. I usually like it when guests
unexpectedly lend their musical talents to the show's comedy. For instance,
I still fondly remember when Juliette Lewis ended an interview by seguing
into a rousing version of "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" by Joan Jett and the
Blackhearts. I think that was back in 2000. Around the same time, Joe
Lieberman sang "My Way" with a wry twist ("Regrets -- here's one -- I've
   had a few...").
