You seem to be under the impression that NBC is going to be airing the
   opening ceremonies live.

There will be no Olympics coverage on NBC on Thursday; Leno, Conan, et
al. are going to air at their scheduled times Thursday night.

On Friday, the opening ceremonies will air, via tape delay, from 8:00
   P.M. to midnight Eastern and Pacific, 7:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M. Central
and Mountain. Presumably, NBC will take advantage of the tape delay to
make sure they fit into exactly four hours. Easiest way to do that is
to skip over the less well-known countries as they're marching in, which
I seem to recall them doing in 2004.

(There is already Olympics coverage happening on some of the other
NBC-owned networks, but that doesn't affect "Late Night." Meanwhile,
all I care about is women's beach volleyball in HD.)
