From: ddrewc@verizonSPAMBEGONE.net              On 2008-12-29 11:46 p.m., Joseph Nebus verbated:       > This was rerun on 26 December 2006, and that time itself was       > a rerun from 20 December 2005. I think that, at three years from the       > original airing to the rerun, this makes this the longest-ago-rerun       > Late Night's done.              Except that the rerun from the night before (with Alan Alda and Billy Joel)       was even older, having originally aired 1 December 2005.              > Isaac Hayes:       > There is an air of coolness which attaches to anyone       > attempting with sincerity to play the theme from Shaft, and even       > people as inherently cool as the Max Weinbert 7 or Isaac Hayes       > and his band gain from it. It's a shame we didn't get to se       > Conan's face during the song; he has to have been giddy to the       > point of explosion.              Indeed it was a singular performance, though a bit strange to watch this       time around because Hayes died in August of a stroke. Your ode to the theme       from "Shaft" is a fine tribute to the man who helped us all get our groove       on -- well, a little bit at least. I doubt the Wiener Phil is going to       change their New Year's program to include a soul number in place of one of       those Strauss waltzes, nor would I want them to, but your point is well taken.              Anyone remember the X-Files episode in which a drugged Mulder wakes up       singing the "Shaft" theme? I can't help but think of that scene whenever I       hear the song.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
