   Former governor Jerry Brown is, at this point, the front-runner to be   
   the Democratic nominee for the next gubernatorial election, in 2010.   
   Yes, people know who he is.   
      
   It's probably too early to speculate about the Democratic gubernatorial   
   nominee for 2014 (assuming there's not a Democratic incumbent who'll be   
   running for re-election), although I wouldn't be surprised to see either   
   current Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa or current San Francisco   
   mayor Gavin Newsom (or even both) make a run at it.  They're both fairly   
   well-known statewide, being the mayors of the two most well-known cities   
   in California.   
      
   On the Republican side for 2010, the only person I know who's expressed   
   interest in running for the nomination is former eBay CEO Meg Whitman.   
   I don't follow Republican politics well enough to speculate on any other   
   names.
