|    Late Night FInale Trip Report Part 21    |

From: nebusj-@-rpi-.edu               In contrast to the organized pattern of getting in, filing out       of the Late Night set was a lot looser. Some people lingered, some people       took out their phones to make calls even though the pages warned ahead of       time that you should not do that until you leave the studio because it can       screw up the editing they do after taping, and a few people tried taking       pictures and were pounced on like hawks by pages saying to not do that.               Seeing how alert the pages were to camera deployment I realized       there was little chance I'd get away with taking a picture. My camera is       great in many ways, but it is also quite big and really unmistakable; if       you're conscious at all you can see the barrel extending as it's turned       on. I know some tricks for taking pictures surreptitiously, but they       depend on coming in to the place with the camera opened and ready. This       there was no getting away with. There've been times I have thought I need       a more discreet camera and this was one of them.               We did linger, though, and were among the last people out, as my       father went over to ask the pages if there were any pieces of set left over        --- no, there weren't --- or if maybe the people fiddling around down by       the band's podiums could give anything --- no, they could not --- and some       of the other lingerers noted to the pages that it must be sad being at the       final show like this. Well, yeah, I'm sure that's a thought none of the       pages had had.               Still, my lingering taught me something I didn't know before: the       large horizontal blue bars marking the sides of the set were not painted       on but were rather blue pads about four inches from the walls with lights       behind them. So that's how they got their neat-looking wall appearance.       I don't know how I didn't know that.               My father and I were guided out of the studio with the last bunch       of people, and we were directed back towards the elevators with one page       noting that some people had tried going down the hallway the other       direction and got into trouble from NBC Security. I infer there are       things going on on the seventh floor that we are not meant to know.               Since my father and I missed one elevator car load I had time to       wander over by the lobby and study the notes for the NBC Book Sale coming       on Tuesday, which would run for two hours. I suppose they weren't working       very hard at the book sale, which is odd since at the end of 2007 the       Kinokuniya bookstore outlet in Rockfeller Center left, to relocate next       to Bryant Park.              --        Joseph Nebus       ------------------------------------------------------------------------------              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
