If They Mated had sort of fallen out of being a regular bit on
Late Night, possibly because it isn't all that much fun without someone
to play off Conan's response to the reveal of the kid. Of course, now
they have someone to play off of regularly so don't have much excuse to
limit it altogether or keep it just to a single mating along the way to
   the rest of the interview.

The non-appearance of the Clutch Cargo interviews is stranger,
particularly since that was one of Late Night's signature bits. I'd
wonder if they felt that clowning around with a fake interview isn't a
``big'' enough thing for The Tonight Show and 11:30, except they've had
no problem with trivial or written-by-photocopier sketches like Celebrity
   Survey or the Audiencey awards.

Triumph doesn't feel to me like he's appeared more often than
on Late Night. In The Year 3000 has popped up quite a bit, though; I
wonder if they aren't torn between ``this is a new show, we should have
new bits'' --- such as the pleasant abundance of Conan-in-the-real-world
segments, or the Twitter Tracker --- and a ``we have to do some small,
easy stuff if we're going to afford bigger bits'' --- like New State
Quarters or so --- and keep coming back to In The Year 3000 as a bit
that's relatively easy to write and stage but always plays well.
