I would've thought that some news program would have tumbled onto
the idea of quality, interesting, informative newscasts, but apparently
my tastes are outside the mainstream. Or too expensive to try.

Anyway, as I understand it, most folks take the 11:00 newscast of
whatever station they were watching at 10:59 offers because what *is* the
difference between them anyway? I can't fault viewers for coming to that
   conclusion.

Still, Leno does apparently deliver a steady audience number, as
was sensible to expect; it's just lower than they figured.

10:30's a decent time to have pretty much finished dinner,
anyway. It's way to early to start gathering for bedtime-related
activity unless you have to get up at 5 am for some reason, like a
series of catastrophically bad life choices.

Despite all the fiasco elements of this, not to mention the
mess Conan's going to go through trying to emerge with dignity [1],
there is silver lining to the Leno At 11:30 scheme: we've managed a
50 percent reduction in the amount of Leno each night. It's not as
grand as the May-to-August (was it August?) stretch, but every little
   bit helps.

[1] Say, did you catch him on the Simpsons 4800th Anniversary
thingy last night? He was just talking Simpsons and tossing off that
effortlessly funny stuff he does when being sincere but comic.
