   Paramount Game for 'Area 51' Film

   LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Paramount Pictures has optioned the   
   rights to the popular arcade game "Area 51," which is set to be released in   
   the home video game market next March in the PlayStation 2 and Xbox formats.   
      
   The Midway Games action-thriller features the voice talent of David Duchovny   
   as Specialist Ethan Cole of the Hazardous Materials Division, Powers Boothe   
   as Major Bridges and singer Marilyn Manson as Edgar, the gray alien.   
      
   Players will take the role of Cole, who has been sent to investigate a   
   distress signal from Area 51, where a viral outbreak has just shut down the   
   research facility, automatically locking all scientific and military   
   personnel inside. During the course of the game, it is revealed that the   
   conspiracy theories and alien autopsies the world has speculated about with   
   regard to Area 51 are far worse than anyone ever imagined.   
      
   The game's monsters were designed by Stan Winston Studios, and techno band   
   Nine Inch Nails is doing the music.   
      
   The movie will not necessarily draw on the video game's talent. Both Midway   
   and Paramount's Viacom Inc. parent are controlled by Viacom chairman and CEO   
   Sumner Redstone.   
      
   The film will be produced for Paramount by Christine Peters, who made one of   
   the studio's few hits last year, the romantic comedy "How to Lose a Guy in   
   10 Days."
