Nor am I. The best I can do is to quote my personal history.

I'm from NZ. As I got into my teens and early 20s I had progressively
worse hay fever (grass pollen allergy plus bad one bad cereal-related
episode during a holiday in the Canterbury province, the one part of NZ
where wheat is grown) which antihistamines suppressed, but at the cost of
general woosiness and lack of focus, which I hated. Upshot: I gave up
using them because I found the running nose, itchy eyes and irritability
preferable. By the time I moved to the UK the symptoms had lessened.

In the UK I met pollen I wasn't used to, mainly cereal crop and rape (the
worst - still gets me but only for a week or so) and the symptoms
returned. Again I didn't use antihistamines (I wanted to drive without
crashing) and the symptoms declined over the next 20 years.

I haven't heard about the Altzheimers connection: looks like I might have
made the right decision: my memory is shit, but at least I know it is, so
   I probably don't have the big A.
