A couple things seem conflated above. This is my understanding --
The first pressing of Joe's Garage was mastered to disk at half speed
(for supposedly better sound quality etc), which is a separate thing
from whether tape was recorded or copied at 30ips of 15ips.
As to whether FZ's safety 2-track of Zoot Allures (from which was
mastered the Warner Bros LP) was made at 15 or 30, I don't know, but
that's interesting, if true. In either case, I believe the original
2-track was tied up in the legal split with Herb/DiscReet and FZ took
his safety to WB who released it.

It would be interesting to know what source was used for the '95 Zoot
Allures CD everyone always said sound murky. I never owned one myself,
but I've had the vinyl for a long time and the 2012 sounds pretty damn
   good / better than LP.
