MB and SL were close friends in the LA studio scene in the 60s.       SL led a pretty fascinating life; the son of a mob connected boxing       manager/used car lot owner, he became a heavyweight fighter in Philly.       He taught himself how to play drums as if he was a lefty, but he was a righty!       Got a gig with Dizzy Gillespie back in 1942 in Philly, but broke a cop's leg       in a scuffle, and fled to NYC, where he received his first shot of heroin by       Charlie Parker.       He roomed with Bird until he couldn't take it anymore, and then roomed with       Miles Davis. He played drums in Bird's first bebop band.       Joined the Kenton band, and wound up getting involved in the LA studio scene       until 1973, when he became a full-time photographer.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
