the possible lack of passport. Would a passport be valid for more than five
   years in 1962?

In his book: ‘’Frankie & Bobby, Growing up Zappa’’, which contains a
lot of details about FZ’s early years, Robert Zappa doesn’t mention
anything about a trip to Germany in the early 60’s.
Like it has been mentioned previously, FZ was in Europe in 1968 (September /
October) but he was already well known and such an event wouldn’t have gone
   unnoticed.
