British author, Ben Watson, has written the most intellectually sophisticated       book on Frank Zappa, emphasizing parallels with the ideas of Theodor Adorno,       THE NEGATIVE DIALECTICS OF POODLE PLAY (1994).              Canadian film critic, Kevin Courrier, has written a book on Zappa, too,       DANGEROUS KITCHEN: The Subversive World of Zappa (2002).              I suggested to Kevin one day that applying McLuhan’s “ideas” to Zappa       would yield more useful patterns than using Adorno. He shouted, “Do it!”              Who’s Frank Zappa?              “It encompassed so many different styles. It was like being in a rock       ’n’ roll band, it was like being in a great jazz ensemble, it was like       being in a chamber orchestra as well.” - Chad Wackerman, drummer for Zappa       from 1981-88, describing his        experience with Zappa.              “There is absolutely no doubt that Zappa will eventually be placed alongside       his classical music contemporaries, where he deserves to be. I truly feel that       he was the greatest composer since electricity changed music.” - Jerry       Outlaw, guitarist who        formed the “Bogus Pomp Orchestra,” a band that sponsors Symphony       Orchestras to perform programs of Zappa’s music.              I formed an Internet radio panel to apply the probes of McLuhan, Wyndham       Lewis, and James Joyce to interpreting the work of Zappa, and we have       broadcast 205 hours of commentary so far.               You might be interested: https://ionandbob.blogspot.com/2016/05/       he-zappa-hour-plus-wroxana-flores.html                     Bob Dobbs              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
