my guess is he is referring to an old quote of his where he says that people   
   listen to music as if it's just background noise, kind of like wallpaper,   
   nobody really pays attention to it and it is probably generally kind of ugly   
   if you really look at it.     
   "floor covering" is probably a joke about how shitty linoleum and any other   
   floor tile is completley lacking in creativity and imagination.  may you never   
   have to listen to boring, corporate, overproduced, commercial radio music   
   again.
