   Social media is effectively just everyone having their own personal   
   newsgroup. Rather than bringing people together around shared interests,   
   it connects people to those they already know.   
      
   In a way, it isolates people to their circle of friends by taking up so   
   much time staying in contact with them you have less time to meet others   
   that might share interests those friends don't have; there's more chance   
   of feeling like you're the only one that feels like you.
