   Usenet, IRC and Gopher are all inherently efficient, scalable,   
   have a small memory and CPU footprint, and are open and flexible   
   protocols anyone can implement in their sleep with a children's book   
   on how to program with common ordinary programming languages.   
      
   That level of freedom and openness is not something that exists on   
   phones. Stupid phones.   
      
   There's stuff like Ubuntu Touch, KDE Plasma Mobile, Android   
   Cyanogenmod, Firefox OS, Tizen and MeeGo/Mer   
      
   But all of that relies on the assumption that the firmware underneath   
   is all open and free and the SIM card isn't evil.
