    The Greek liturgy asserts 14,000 Holy Innocents, while an early Syrian list   
   of saints asserts 64,000. Coptic sources assert 144,000 and that it took place   
   December  29   
   the population of Palestine in Jesus' day was approximately 500,000 to 600,000   
   In Jesus day the total population of Galilee was more than three million   
   (War 6.420), and Josephus himself mustered 60,000 infantry and a total of   
   100,000 fighters for the war against Rome (War 2.583, 576). There is a   
   widespread tendency in scholarship to dismiss Josephus's population figures.   
   I wonder sometimes if it  is possible that the infanticide that Herod    
   committed on the innocents, effected the people spiritually in that day,   
   made them so hard hearted against Jesus
