   To maintain a sense of reality within the story, Kaneko has to address the   
   "GMK-world" audience, but not at our expense, his "real" audience. He should   
   have realized that what he had her talking about we already know, making the   
   information redundant.

   And that's the point. In the "real world" there wouldn't just be her   
   covering this. Yes, certain info she finds out would be exclusive, but this   
   would be an international incident with every news organization flooding the   
   streets and skies with cameras. People would have known that G was G, simply   
   because he had appeared once before and survivors would have recognized him,   
   and that would have been reported by other outlets. I see your point about   
   the unifying spirit idea, but without showing generic Japanese Citizen A,   
   and they're reaction to her words, makes the scene an incestuous event and   
   more about her growth as a reporter.
