I'm not going to argue your points (as I mostly agree with them), but I'd
   like to add:

The fandom as a whole is maturing. Kaneko set the bar himself with the
Heisei Gamera series, which INCREDIBLY WELL depicted "kaiju in the real
world" (well, G2 was a little of a drop off). The films become that much
more engrossing when it's easier to relate to the world presented (save the
kaiju). I for one, as much as I love Godzilla, am starting to tire of Toho's
need to interject fantasy science elements (oxygen destroyer, SuperX, Maser
tanks, etc) as their main deux ex machina. Let the kaiju beat the kaiju, or
loose through some extraordinary use of strategy and firepower, but enough
with the "convenient inventions" that just so happen to save the day.
