From: qoph.29@gmail.com              Description: The nefarious Lord Voldemort and his followers, including       Bellatrix Lestrange and Lucius Malfoy, continue to grow in power,       threatening everything that Dumbledore risked his life for. Having       learnt everything that they need at Hogwarts, Harry, Ron and Hermione       embark on a perilous quest to track down the mysterious Horcruxes that       could stop the forces from darkness from taking a stranglehold over       the wizarding world.              Duration: 146mins                     It¡¦s not quite the end, but the end is undeniably nigh: this is the       first of two films of J K Rowling¡¦s final Harry Potter book. It¡¦s a       bleak prospect for addicts and they will, in turn, find that this is       the bleakest movie to date.              The essence of the saga¡¦s charm has been that they are, at heart,       boarding school stories, with magic thrown in. Well, this film       doesn¡¦t feature Hogwarts at all. It begins, like the others, with       Harry approaching his birthday chez Dursleys. Except he isn¡¦t going       back to school. He¡¦s embarking on a quest finally to bring down       Voldemort by destroying the missing horcruxes ¡X bits of the evil       wizard¡¦s soul embedded in assorted objects. So there are none of the       feasts, the fun, of school life: this story is down to the three       friends, Harry, Ron and Hermione, facing enormous odds against a       Voldemort who is resurgent, but still without a nose. You can tell       this is grimmer from the colours alone: it starts off in black, with       the macabre Death Eaters¡¦ get-together at Malfoy Manor. It goes on in       various shades of grey and white, as the friends end up in forests by       night (including the Forest of Dean), or in Godric¡¦s Hollow on a       snowy Christmas Eve, or on limestone pavements in Scotland, or in the       unremitting gloom of Grimmauld Place. That pretty well echoes what¡¦s       going on psychologically: the horcrux they wear in turn brings out       jealousy in Ron, savage temper in Harry.              One of the very few tender moments goes off piste from the book, when       Harry and Hermione, stuck in a tent, dance to music from a dud radio;       there¡¦s plainly rather good chemistry between Emma Watson and Daniel       Radcliffe.              There¡¦s magic, of course, and the film has fun with Polyjuice potion,       which at one point produces seven Harry Potters, one in a bra.              Nagini the snake is the stuff of nightmares, though he¡¦s run a close       second by Helena Bonham Carter, a dead ringer for Medusa as an       unhinged Bellatrix Lestrange.              As for poor Dobbie the house elf, he gets his stab at heroism. And       director David Yates¡¦s approach emphasises in cinematic references       the fascist character of the Ministry of Magic and its campaign for       racial purity.              It¡¦s gripping alright, but ends all too abruptly. I asked three       little girls afterwards ¡X they were astonishingly stolid about the       scary elements ¡X what they¡¦d made of it. ¡§Sad¡¨, they said in unison.       Yep, that¡¦s about it.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
