   Grindelwald was never in love with Dumbledore. Dumbledore was in love   
   with Grindelwald, but the love was unrequited.   
      
   I dont know why Grindelwald should have won in a fair duel. Dumbledore   
   was a more skillful wizard. They were both using good wands. The Elder   
   wand was more powerful, but we dont know how much more powerful.   
   Dumbledore probably got his wand from Ollivander, who makes very   
   powerful wands himself.   
      
   And Dumbledore didn't know Grindelwald had the Elder wand. He had   
   heard rumours that Grindelwald had "procured a wand of immense power".   
   He may have guessed then that it was the Elder wand, or he may not   
   have known until after he beat him in the duel and got to inspect the   
   wand closer.
